PRIVACY

Privacy, without the fog.

Amist keeps the data needed to run the game and uses a small set of privacy-minimized usage analytics to understand whether the product is working.

Game and account data

When you play, Amist keeps an anonymous player ID and your official game data, including attempts, submitted rankings, scores, timer information, and data needed for stats, streaks, history, and leaderboards. This is product data: it remains available so an anonymous player can keep their history and later attach it to an account.

If you create an account, Amist stores your username, password hash, account session information, history, badges, and saved Practice progress. Passwords are not stored in plain text.

Feedback and technical operations

If you send feedback, Amist stores the category and message, plus your email only if you choose to provide one. Hosting, security, and abuse prevention systems may also process ordinary technical request information, such as IP address and request metadata, in service logs. That operational information is separate from Amist's product analytics.

Browser storage and cookies

Amist uses an anonymous-player cookie so the same browser can keep its official game state and history, and an account-session cookie when you sign in. Local storage is used for interface preferences, ranking drafts, local Practice progress, and your Usage analytics On/Off choice.

Amist does not create a persistent analytics session ID or use analytics storage to build a person-by-person browsing history.

Usage analytics

Usage analytics are on by default. You can switch them off at any time. Amist keeps only narrowly defined aggregate counts needed to answer product questions, such as how many players reached the official puzzle, started ranking, shared a result, arrived through a shared link, or used Practice.

Permanent analytics are anonymous totals grouped mainly by date and puzzle. Amist does not keep a permanent analytics event timeline, analytics session IDs, browser or device profiles, precise location, screen size, or arbitrary analytics metadata.

A temporary player identifier may be used only to prevent duplicate counts or connect a narrow action, such as a shared-link arrival or Practice signup intent, to its immediate outcome. That temporary analytics state expires within 48 hours and is not copied into the permanent aggregate analytics.

Your PreferenceOptional usage counts that help improve Amist.Gameplay and player progress are unaffected.

What turning analytics off changes

Turning Usage analytics off stops Amist from adding your activity to those optional usage aggregates or creating temporary analytics attribution state. It does not remove or disable the game data required for official attempts, anonymous player stats, history, streaks, leaderboards, accounts, security, or saved Practice progress.

Who receives data

Amist does not sell personal data and does not use it for third-party advertising. Infrastructure providers process data on Amist's behalf, including Netlify for hosting and Neon for the database. Those providers may process data in countries different from yours under their own legal and contractual safeguards.

Retention

Temporary analytics dedupe and attribution state is kept for no more than 48 hours. Anonymous aggregate analytics may be kept longer so Amist can understand historical product trends. Game and account records have a different purpose and retention period because they provide player-facing features such as history, statistics, streaks, leaderboards, and Practice progress. Account sessions expire separately.

Your choices and rights

You can change the Usage analytics setting above at any time. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights concerning access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection to certain processing.
